December 2024 Crowdfunding Update

This is our monthly crowdfunding update for December. If you’d like to hear more from us, you can check us out on bluesky or twitter, sign up for our substack newsletter, follow us on itch, or chat with us in our discord.
Hello, Backwards Backers!
The big news is that I’m migrating the Backwards Tabletop newsletter and our old, crumbling website to substack, where their content will be merged. I’m still building the substack, but I’m hoping to make it a “one-stop shop.”
I’ve set up the substack so that there are two sections: “News & Deals” and “Crowdfunding Updates.” The News & Deals is the default newsletter, and you can choose whether to receive updates on Crowdfunding projects.
Crowdfunding Updates
Last month, I mentioned that art and writing for Backchannels and Backwoods is 100% done. Also complete are new character sheets, dice, miniatures, layout templates, sensitivity reading, and adventures.
What's new? I’ve received approval from writers about the sensitivity readers’ feedback and have made the relevant edits. I’ve finished writing the adventure hooks.
I have started layout too. I am a little over 200 pages into the layout for Backwoods. In our Kickstarter, we estimated that Backwoods would be approximately 250 pages, and it seems we were right on target.
Updated Timeline. We're still looking at Q1 of 2025 for completion, sometime between Jan and March. Layout for the other books will go a bit more quickly, as it should involve a little less problem-solving.
Previews
In this month’s previews you can see some drafted layout previews and a new piece of art by Carlos Eulefi. The goal of this piece was to parody the American Gothic painting by Grant Wood, which features a man and his daughter standing in front of a house with a gothic window. Our version amplifies the gothic and adds characters from Colonial America: a haunted house, a dark and stormy night, a monstrous Ben Franklinstein, and a vampiric Betsy Ross. The backstory implied by the kite, lightning, and Franklinstein cracks me up. Enjoy!

And that's all that I have for this update! I’m dreaming of the day when I can start sharing printed proofs with you all. Until then, I’ll keep hammering away at layout.
